The images are anticipated to be cast with form liners into the concrete bridge abutments, bridge wing walls, and wall barriers. Additionally metal pedestrian railing will be incorporated into the project and is an additional surface available for art. The artist will be expected to be conversant with the selected media. The commissioned work should address textures and colors as well as form. The actual fabrication and installation will be completed by the project general contractor.
The artwork will enhance the current bridge design which includes four (4) Raton railroad station style towers. The number of towers may be reduced at the recommendation of the artist. The artwork design should consider the Federal Highway Administration’s Gateway Monument Program Guidelines.
The artwork should complement the City of Raton’s Branding Style Guide, color palette, and include one or more of the following themes:

Raton’s Mainstreet, Downtown District and Railroad Station
Santa Fe Trail, Covered Wagons or Wagon Wheels
Multi-Cultural Community

Our goal is to reflect the diversity of the arts in New Mexico, the Southwest, and the nation while building a dynamic public art collection for the State of New Mexico. Through a fair and open public involvement process, a committee made up of local and regional representatives will work with NMDOT to select an artist to work on the project. EXTERNAL APP -- https://artist.callforentry.org/festivals_unique_info.php?ID=15211 -- The 2nd annual Salida Chalk Festival will transform downtown Salida into a giant outdoor gallery of colorful murals as artists create 6’ x 6’ temporary art works of chalk and pastel live during the festival. Like the Madonnari tradition of chalk painting of Italy, artists will create their works on the street. The Salida Chalk Festival is produced by Salida Arts and Culture, and the Salida Creative District Program in partnership with the Salida Public Arts Commission. The Salida Creative District invites artists within a 150-mile radius to apply to be an artist for the 2nd annual Salida Chalk Festival to be held Saturday, June 28 in historic downtown Salida. This year’s theme is Celebrate Nature. Interested artists should submit a sketch of the proposed artwork along with a brief description and include (2-3) images of work that shows relevant experience in large scale work such as chalk art or murals. Selected artists receive a set of 24 color pastels, an event "artist" t-shirt, breakfast and lunch, and a $250 stipend. Artists selected by the following criteria: complete application; local artist within 150-mile radius; creative use of theme; sketch adheres to guidelines; past work demonstrates ability to complete 6’ x 6’ piece in one day. The mural will be featured on the Geothermal Building, a prominent location along the main thoroughfare that offers high visibility to both locals and visitors. Positioned near a popular riverwalk, the artwork will provide an engaging visual experience for pedestrians while enhancing the area’s cultural and aesthetic vibrancy.
Pagosa Springs, derived from the Ute word “Pah-gosa,” meaning “healing water” or “boiling water,” is a small mountain town rich in history and natural beauty. Known for its geothermal hot springs, Pagosa is a sacred area for the Ute and Navajo peoples. Today, the town is celebrated for its outdoor recreation, cultural vibrancy, and connection to geothermal energy, which heats local businesses and homes while supporting the popular soaking pools at the Springs Resort and Spa. Pagosa Springs has a unique relationship with geothermal energy and its uses. From heating downtown businesses to the popular hot springs aquifer which feeds hot mineral soaking pools along the San Juan River to the nearby Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership growing domes that use geothermal heat to provide year-round vegetables as well as education of this renewable energy resource unique to Pagosa, the artwork on this building should reflect some or all aspects of these elements and embody the community’s heritage, offering a lasting piece that resonates with residents and visitors alike.
The 2025 public art selection will focus on creating a cohesive mural for the geothermal building, covering all or part of its exterior. The amount allotted to this project is anticipated to be $15,000 in the Town’s Fiscal Year 2025 Budget. The projected amount is subject to the availability of an annual appropriation by the Town. *Review to Site for updated plans already taking place with the building. The mural will ideally be completed by 12/31/25, but completion may be extended to 6/30/26, depending on the proposal.

APP LINK -- https://www.nyfa.org/awards-grants/anonymous-was-a-woman-environmental-art-grants/ -- The Anonymous Was A Woman Environmental Art Grants (AWAW EAG) provides grants of up to $20,000 to environmental art projects led by women-identifying artists in the United States and U.S. Territories.
The AWAW EAG supports environmental art projects that inspire thought, action, and ethical engagement. Projects should not only point at problems, but aim to engage an environmental issue at some scale. Proposals should illustrate thorough consideration of a project’s ecological and social ethics. Projects that explore interdependence, relationships, and systems through Indigenous and ancestral practices are encouraged to apply.
For the 2025 cycle, the program will distribute over $520,000 in funding. This more than doubles the yearly funding since AWAW EAG’s inaugural year, offering more artists the opportunity to have their projects funded.

This area is where students gather to wait for classes and is across from a student study area. Media of all types will be considered, but must be mounted to or on the wall. If mounted to the wall, artwork should meet ADA requirements. Please refer to the location images in the full RFQ document to see more information about the location wall and for measurements. The main focus for the artwork is the area currently occupied by the map and bulletin board, but the artwork may occupy more of the wall space and even extend further down the hallway.
A consideration of an existing public artwork in the building would be appreciated; ideally the new artwork would have a relationship in some way. The existing artwork is “Wingscape,” by David Griggs and Scott Parsons. This artwork consists of two outdoor stone columns, an exterior frieze, and two murals with a total of 13,000 handmade tiles and 200 distinct colored glazes.The artists were inspired by Gunnison’s natural geography of cairns, columns, and visible geological strata. This is evident in the exterior columns, which include some stones collected from Gunnison and other regions of Colorado. Another source of inspiration was the region’s unique biodiversity, specifically two endangered species of butterfly. This artwork is well liked on campus, in particular due to its non-literal/non-figurative interpretation of the subject matter. The committee for this art project would similarly like to see non-objective artwork examples that relate to the programs in the building. Please see these images of “Wingscape” for reference.

EXTERNAL APP -- https://artist.callforentry.org/festivals_unique_info.php?ID=15375 -- Qualifications are requested from Colorado-based mural artists or mural teams interested in creating site-specific murals for the new prominent parking garage at the Parker Arts, Culture and Events Center (PACE) underway in downtown Parker. The project is open to Colorado artists and/or artist teams only. The total project budget for the PACE Center Parking Garage Murals shall not exceed $350,000. There is a possibility that the art selection panel may separate this budget between one or more artists, though they hope to commission one artist for the entire project to create a cohesive whole.
The budget shall be inclusive of all costs associated with the public art project including, but not limited to artist(s) design fee, project managers and assistants, insurance, materials, transportation, equipment rentals, installation, site modifications, travel to and from the site, per diem expenses, project documentation, contingency to cover unexpected expenses and any other costs related to the project.
As part of their budget, artists will be expected to procure and utilize their own equipment (i.e. cranes, lifts, PPE, supplies, etc.), prime mural areas as needed and provide a final UV/Graffiti Coating after the mural is completed.
INSURANCE
The selected artist(s) will be required to meet the Town’s minimum insurance requirements, plus other liability insurance that may be required for this unique scope of work.
