"Hunter's Prayer" Mural Art

This concept features the Arcigera Flower Moth and one of its many natural predators, the Cuckoo bird, both species native to Wisconsin. I chose to focus on these species because I’ve always been fascinated by animals’ natural relationships and interactions. There’s meaning in the connections that animals have to one another, and often times I find parallels or discover lessons applicable to my own life when observing the natural world. As predator-prey cycles ebb and flow and their populations rise and fall, a greater picture is painted of the amazingly complex balance that exists in nature. Something about this gives me a greater sense of peace in experiencing life’s ups and downs, and making sense of my own mortality. The framework that the hunter Cuckoo is developed within is in the shape of a stone projectile point / blade known as a Thebes. These stone tools were produced by ancient cultures of the Upper Midwest, including parts of present day Wisconsin, during the Early Archaic period between 10,000-8,000 B.P. The particular Thebes that I referenced was recovered in the southeastern part of Wisconsin, not far from Milwaukee / Menomonee Falls.
