I was commissioned by Great Outdogs, a pet shop in Downtown Austin to create an uplifting, dog-themed mural for the pet shop. Given the pandemic, the owner and I agreed that a mural that told a message of hope and perseverance was essential to the community. I chose a strong and happy Rottweiler looking upwards to convey that message of hope, along with a neon typeface for the message "You Can't Keep A Good Dog Down." I wanted a unique typeface that could stand out independently of the dog.

Ariel Jay Newman is a Los Angeles-born artist based in Austin, TX. She works across a range of media, including oil paintings, illustrations, graphic design, and murals. Ariel completed her first mural in Downtown Austin in 2021, has participated in multiple art fairs, including Big Medium’s Austin Studio Tour, and is showcased at Art For The People Gallery. Before becoming a full-time artist, the University of California, Davis alumna worked in the advertising industry and freelanced as a graphic designer.
