About this mural:

This was the 3rd painting in a 4 part mural series titled the I AM Series. The entire project was spearheaded, organized and lead by artist Darius Dennis. This particular painting is a photo real oil enamel reproduction of famed photographer Danny Lyon's capture of the late Representative John Lewis. This mural overlooks downtown Rochester and is across the street from where Frederick Douglas gave his famous speech "What to a slave is the 4th of July?" This mural is a memorial, a think piece on history telling, education materials, community, resilience and "having a something profound to say".
