About this mural:

The Putnam Pileated mural was commissioned by the City of Fitchburg. I was given nearly absolute creative freedom, and I used an older design I had done years previous to this mural. People often asked me while I was making this mural "what does it mean?" I would often respond with, "That is a good question, what do you think it means?" Often, my designs are inspired by nature and various iconography that inspires emotional responses. With this design I felt a compulsion to have a woodpecker clinging to the side of an old metal microphone. For me, birds represent the purest form of freedom, with their ability to fly away at anytime. And the microphone represents communicating that message.
