LAMKAT, also known as Kat Lam, is a multi-disciplinary artist specializing in abstract geometric designs in both large and small format media.
Born to immigrant parents in Texas as a first-generation Chinese American, multiple cultures have guided Kat Lam through life. In conjunction with Chinese and American cultures, she has also been immersed in Mexican culture due to both the geographic location of her upbringing and the familial roots of her Mexican American step-father. Kat’s designs are constantly inspired by the merging of three cultures—she utilizes textures, colors, patterns, and shapes found in Mexican, American, and Chinese textiles, ceramics, woodwork, and the like.
Her work showcases a contemporary abstraction to a wide range of subject matter. By simplifying objects into precise geometric shapes and utilizing bold colors, patterns, and textures, each of her pieces depicts the depth and perspective needed to live a full and vibrant life. Kat strives to bring a vibrant and welcoming space for placemaking to the surrounding communities where each of her murals lives. She has been an artist for the entirety of her life with a professional focus since 2015. Her work can be found internationally for private and public art clients across the United States, Canada, Australia, Poland, and Colombia. She currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
