About this mural:

I designed and painted The Happy Salmon to celebrate Ballard’s fishing history and Scandinavian heritage, transforming an overlooked alley into a bright, welcoming space. Created with spray paint and acrylics, the mural features two leaping salmon and the greeting “Velkommen,” a nod to the neighborhood’s Nordic roots. The design also honors the adjacent building’s past as a fish factory. Through playful imagery, bold color, and hand-painted typography, I wanted to create something that feels distinctly Ballard and gives neighbors and visitors a reason to stop, smile, and connect with the area’s history.
