About this mural:

Shane Grammer is a four time participant of the annual Wide Open Walls Mural Festival, whose main operations is based in the greater Sacramento metropolitan area. The festival is, by design, a live event that plays host to its community, which includes food and merchandise vendors, talented live performers, and a host of invited muralists who all come together to transform the community by creating space for cultural engagement, creativity, and the creation of large-scale works of inspirational art in Sacramento and its surrounding cities. Shane’s 2023 contribution to the festival is a nine-hundred square foot mural painted on the outdoor amphitheater of Father B. Kenny Elementary School located in Oak Park, California off of Martin Luther King Boulevard. The mural itself honors the late civil rights activist, as well as Dolores Huerta, who was a contemporary of Dr. King’s and worked alongside Cesar Chavez as an activist in the civil rights movement within the migrant hispanic communities in California. The two influential icons are depicted in bright and colorful hues that are a vibrant and celebratory reminder of their contributions to making our world a more beautiful place to live.
