Now gracing the walls of Granville’s North Hollywood location is Shane Grammer’s newest addition to his collection of iconic subject work he is best known for. The restaurant’s twenty-two foot tall mural features the illustrative portrait of a deep-toned beauty in monochromatic grays, surrounded by a cascade of florals—roses and leaves contoured in crisp, black line work over a white brick veneer. A wash of vibrant reds and greens in selective cells within the florals adds a charming burst of color, and a distressed and antiquated effect is further enhanced by a backing of rust and sepia tones, as well as white paint ragged over the original line work. On the second story, the theme of the first is echoed with similarly linear florals, this time shaded in grays with an added decadent touch of outlining in metallic gold. Centered between the two sets of flowers, a hummingbird is painted in a fine variety of golden tones blended with metallic gold so that it shifts in the restaurant’s ambient light. The Granville mural in its entirety is indeed a reflection of the restaurant’s philosophy of accessible, casual luxury, and evokes a sense of organic connection to a culture of local artists, creators, craftsmen, and dreamers, and to a community as rich in its diversity as it is in its creativity.
