Tyler Shrake is a visionary painter and muralist currently living in Portland, Oregon. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, he moved to the PDX area at the age of 21 to pursue a fine art degree at Portland State University, where in 2021 he graduated with a BFA with a focus in painting and mural design. Since graduating, Tyler has been painting interior and exterior murals full-time across the Pacific Northwest. With a portfolio that includes mural projects for apartment complexes, music venues, corporate offices, coffee shops, and private homes, Tyler has been developing a strong collection of large scale work over the past few years that exemplifies his dedication to transforming otherwise bland public spaces into inspiring celebrations of art. In addition to his passion for creating murals, Tyler has also become an established presence in the live painting scene in and around Portland. Having painted in front of crowds reaching into the thousands at dozens of concerts and festivals over the past three years, Tyler has developed a creative practice that emphasizes the importance of connecting with the viewer directly. This experience led him to join The Haven, a visionary art and healing center in Portland, OR, where in 2025 he became their Aesthetic Director. Creating mostly in acrylic, Tyler’s work often utilizes strongly saturated color schemes, cosmic backgrounds, and symbolic elements to express the mystical insights that have illuminated his life with meaning. Largely inspired by Eastern philosophies, meditation, and our connection to nature, Tyler seeks to create metaphysical dramas that suggest deep truths related to our collective existence. It is his belief that paintings, when rendered as spiritual allegories, can cause people to remember transcendent qualities of life that are commonly forgotten. Therefore, a main part of his creative mission is to utilize the power of painting to explore and remind people of the all too often hidden reality of spirit that seems to connect us all.
