Touchstones Mural Art

Mural size:
100 ft x 8 ftAbout this mural:
This commission by Discover, for the historic Walnut Street YMCA in Wilmington, was specifically in response to the emotionally charged protests in response to the murder of George Floyd in summer of 2020. This very wide mural is on a hallway which is also illuminated and visible from the street at night. It features a young black girl holding a globe, where rays of light beams span outwardly over every radius of color, representing decades of inspirational African American icons. These chronological icons start with Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, and then end with John Lewis and Kamala Harris. Other icons include actor/director Spike Lee, athlete Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and musician Jimi Henrix.
