About this mural:
Painted for the Virginia History Museum 2018 mural exhibit “Fresh Paint”- works based on artifacts from the museum’s collection. This piece is based on an antique photograph of the Natural Bridge in Virginia taken by Michael Miley around 1880-90. The photograph is taken in a way that exaggerates the appearance of the bridge, meant to remind us of those forces of nature that dwarf human endeavor, and evoke thoughts of the sublime.
