H-OWL Athene Noctua A contemporary ‘’totem’ on Iera Odos This is one of my latest works on Iera Odos, Athens. The owl known as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge. My inspiration comes from the characteristics of this legendary and mysterious bird that dominates in the darkness and with its big eyes comes face to face with the residents of the city. The owl knows what is there and sees things that humans cannot perceive. But beyond that, the owl is associated with the goddess Athena, she is the sacred owl of Athens, the so-called “Athene Noctua’. In the center of the city she is charming us with her frightened glance and at the same time her look is full of wonder. What is she trying to tell us? Despite the bright colours I use, the owl of Iera Odos bellows sadness, loneliness, silence but also she sends us a message of sensitivity and awareness. Η-owl

Born in Athens, Greece, he graduated from Athens School of Fine Arts in 2010. Shortly after, in 2011, he presented his first solo exhibition in London (Lazaridis gallery ). Starting his artistic activity as a muralist and progressively moving into paintings, land-art sculptures and installation work, Vaggelis has been commissioned by many Greek Institutions including the Social Institution Alexander, Onassis Cultural Centre, the Athens Concert Hall, the Costopoulos Foundation, the French Institute. He has also curated the project Chromopolis for the Olympic Games of 2004. His murals can be seen in many cities around the world including London, Shenzhen, Lisbon, Berlin, Paris.
