Green began her career as an artist, educator and curator in 1981. Though she has worked in video, installation and performance, she is primarily an object maker who represents the body. Her sculpture has been exhibited widely for forty years. She is the recipient of many prestigious artist's fellowships, including the Guggenheim Fellowship and one from the National Endowment for the Arts. She has taught at LMU, UCLA and USC.
