PSEUDOMERO (b. Joel Romero-Martínez. San Juan, PR 1981) Puerto Rican artist located in Naples, Florida, Pseudomero specializes in drawing, relief printing, graffiti, murals, and mixed media. His work begins with personal scrutiny of social iconography in advertising, fashion, art, music, politics, news, and contemporary prints. He explores a repetition of the intensified literary image after a playful alternation of shapes, textures, colors, and values of urban aesthetics. With a Master's Degree in Museology from the Caribbean University (2010) and a Bachelor's degree in Drawing from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus (2006), a vibrant training at the Central School of Visual Arts in Santurce (1999), has oscillated between intellectual cultivation and technical exercise. Has an uninterrupted participation in lots of artistic events such as auctions, collective and individual exhibitions, live art performances, and private collections. Pseudomero was part of the Artistic Residencies of the Municipality of Bayamón, Puerto Rico for four years (2016-2020). Has worked as a professor at different superior education institutions in Puerto Rico for more than five years and is a candidate for a Ph.D. in the History of Puerto Rico at the Center for Advanced Studies of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
