Pseudomero (b. Joel Romero-Martínez, September 18, 1981). Puerto Rican artist based in Naples, Florida, specializing in drawing, mixed-media painting, and murals. His work begins with a thoughtful and consistent scrutiny of the social iconographic imaginary articulated in advertising, art, music, history, news, and graphics, from the personal to the universal. He usually starts with exploring alternative shapes, textures, and colors related to urban aesthetics. In recent years, his explorations through Nature have given him a turning point in his career to talk about politics, endangered wildlife, economics, and the effects on the people around it. Pseudomero is interested in using his art to discuss how responsible we are and how we are affected by policies that compromise our relationship with nature. His recent body of works showcases bromeliads, coastlines, seashells, and palm trees to talk about the environment based on his notes while hiking in natural preserves. His work expresses a career path and philosophy based on the temper of self-management and artistic resilience. Was part of the Bayamón City Artistic Residencies. Has worked as an educator at various higher education institutions in Puerto Rico for more than five years and holds a Ph.D. in the History of Puerto Rico from CEAPRC.
