Bio
Shinjiro Tanaka, born in Los Angeles in 1985, completed his degree in economics at Keio University and afterward accumulated experience working at Dentsu's newspaper division, a major advertising agency. However, the loss of a close person in 2011 and his volunteer experience following the Great East Japan Earthquake altered the course of his life, leading him to pursue a profound passion for art. His works delve into themes of life and death, the connections between individuals, and the hidden potential within humans, utilizing primitive motifs such as dots and lines. His background as a dancer infuses his expressions with movement and rhythm, bringing a sense of physicality and immediacy.
Living in New York from 2012 to 2017, he amassed a variety of experiences that greatly influenced his art, including working as an assistant to a musical producer, performing with Nile Rodgers and CHIC, launching his own apparel brand "BSWK," and participating in the Heisei Nakamura-za New York performance. These experiences introduced multicultural influences to his art, adding depth to his subsequent works.
After returning to Japan, he engaged in mural projects as an art coordinator at TokyoDex and became independent in 2019. His artistic activities have since expanded to include canvas works, murals, digital art, and more. Since 2022, he has resumed his activities in New York, undertaking new projects such as solo exhibitions in SOHO, mural creations for stores and hotels, installations, and event planning.
In 2024, he established the Evergreen Collective, a platform aimed at supporting creators in achieving sustainable growth and contributing to society. Shinjiro Tanaka's endeavors seek to offer new perspectives to the world through the art born from his diverse experiences and insights, aiming to stimulate creativity.
