My name is Mily Esteban, and I am reaching out on behalf of the KAYLT (Korean American Youth Leadership Training) College Cohort. As part of our summer community project, our cohort is exploring the possibility of creating a mural in Koreatown, Los Angeles, centered on Korean LGBTQIA+ visibility and representation. Our goal is to celebrate the diversity of the Korean American community while fostering dialogue, inclusion, and belonging through public art. This RFQ&E is a call for multiple artwork opportunities under SMForward’s Concourse B Expansion project. Budget Description Artworks could be large or small scale and commissioned or purchased with budgets ranging between $25,000 to $200,000. Number of commissions or direct purchases of existing artworks: 4–6 All budgets are inclusive of all costs associated with delivering the services described in this RFQ&E, including artists’ fees, and costs associated with design, fabrication, and installation of artwork, including transportation. Project Description CONCOURSE B EXPANSION Six (6) additional gates will be added to the west end of Concourse B. These areas are primarily for passengers awaiting departure but also for arriving passengers. They are areas of interlude that give the viewer time to slow down and reflect before, after, or between flights. The opportunity here is to invite travelers deeper into the works of art and revel in their detail, sparking moments of curiosity, contemplation, and calm. In collaboration with the architect, spaces to hang two-dimensional works of art or low-relief wall pieces will be designed at multiple gates. Artworks for these spaces could be large or small scale and commissioned or purchased with budgets ranging between $25,000 to $200,000. This opportunity was specifically created to engage artists who do not have public art experience. Artwork Goals At the heart of the SMForward Art Program is the desire to cultivate an unforgettable experience for every traveler. Whether a traveler is walking to their gate, waiting in line at security, stepping off the plane towards the baggage claim area, or catching a car to the city, a successful public artwork can elevate their travel experience. Art can contribute to, reflect, and encapsulate the exhilaration at the start of an adventure, the warmth, welcome, and comfort of a return home, and help create a contemplative calm during a long layover.

Working with a local artist to travel to Utah, gain some inspiration from their trip, and come back to their home city to create a mural based on the experience. Likely imagery includes mountains, skiing, wildflowers, etc.
