The Iryna Zarutska Memorial Mural Project honors a young Ukrainian woman who was tragically killed in Charlotte after fleeing the war in Ukraine.
We're creating large-scale photorealistic memorial murals across major US cities. These murals serve as a lasting tribute to Iryna and raise awareness about violent crime and the need for accountability in our justice system.
This is an apolitical project focused on human dignity and community safety - a reminder that behind every headline is a real person whose life mattered, and that our communities must do better to protect vulnerable people.

SUBMIT VIA THIS LINK --- https://nyculture.submittable.com/submit --- see link for submission instructions. applications submitted through Beautify's site will not be considered. --- Public Artists in Residence (PAIR) is a municipal residency program that embeds artists in city government to propose and implement creative solutions to pressing civic challenges. Launched in the fall of 2015, PAIR takes its inspiration and its name from the pioneering work of artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles, the first official (unsalaried) artist-in-residence with the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY), 1977 – present.
PAIR is based on the premise that artists are creative problem-solvers. They are able to create long-term and lasting impact by working collaboratively and in open-ended processes to build community bonds, open channels for two-way dialogue, and reimagine realities to create new possibilities for those who experience and participate in the work.
Through a series of conversations, DCLA and a partner City Agency decide on a broad population, challenge, and/or goal the partner agency wishes to focus on. With Commissioner-level support, DCLA issues an open call for artists or recommends artists based on artistic excellence and demonstrated knowledge of the particular social issues addressed in the residency. The final artist selection is made in partnership with both agencies.
Each PAIR is a minimum of one year. The residency begins with a research phase, during which the artist spends time at the agency meeting staff and learning about its operations and initiatives while also introducing their art practice and process to agency staff. The research phase concludes with a proposal from the artist outlining one or more public-facing participatory projects that will be implemented in partnership with the agency. Artists receive a fee, as well as in-kind resources such as desk space with the partner agency, an access to DCLA's Materials for the Arts.

APP LINK -- https://www.saveartspace.org/10th -- SaveArtSpace is proud to present our 10th Anniversary celebration The People’s Art, a group public art exhibition on billboard ad space in New York, NY, opening May 30, 2025, curated by Anne-Laure Lemaitre, RJ Rushmore, Zahra Sherzad, Steven P. Harrington and Jaime Rojo, & Travis Rix.
The People’s Art is an art of, and for, the people. This is the art of the commons, that shared space between the tyranny of privatization and the compromise of collectivity. In a medium dedicated to telling the people what they want, SaveArtSpace allows us to occupy public space as a personal place where we can imagine what we need.
We invite artists of all ages and talents to submit their artwork between March 3, 2024 and April 14, 2025. This is an opportunity to have your work placed on ad space in New York, NY. Up to 50 artists will be selected from the open call.
Open call for art ends April 14, 2025. There is a $10 donation per image submission to participate, each donation is tax deductible and goes to producing the public art. Selected artists will be announced after April 28, 2025. Public art will be on view starting May 30, 2025 in New York, NY, and will be on view for at least one month.
The selected artists will also be exhibited at Satellite Gallery, 279 Broome St, NYC, with a one-night opening reception anniversary party on May 30, 2025, 6-9p.
