The intention, of course, is not to motivate people to spend their free time in the underpass, but to contribute to a change in the perception of the place. Within the framework of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 project, the Creative Institute Trenčín announces an art-architectural competition. The aim of the competition is to show the potential of the underpass, to improve its overall impression for pedestrians, and at the same time to use this specific public space for the presentation of the activities of Trenčín 2026. Project – design & build, anonymous, public, combined architectural-artistic, one phase competition. This procurement, or the contract award, is not a design competition (according to Section 119 et seq. of the Public Procurement Act and Decree of the Office for Public Procurement No. 157/2016 Coll.), but it is a contract award outside the Public Procurement Act announced according to the Competition Act of the Slovak Chamber of Architects.

These creations, which combine text and illustrations, are aimed at the entire population and highlight Rimbaud's work without the barriers of books or museums. The murals created help to fill the gap in reference to Rimbaud's work within the historical tour and, above all, to make the texts of the Caropolitan poet visible to as many people as possible. These works are aimed at all audiences, Rimbaldians but also non-specialists who are initially attracted by the artistic project and who will then be able to go and discover the rest of Rimbaud's works. This "Rimbaud tour" also aims to introduce tourists to little-known areas of the city. To participate in this call, we invite you to please read the specific requirements of each space, as described in the Terms of the open call. Submit your proposals in digital format, between 4th of April and 4th of May 2025, 23:59, by filling in the participation form published below. The selection of the winning artistic interventions will be made by an impartial jury made up of representatives of the programme partners – Romexpo SA, SF Travel, Homeowner’s Association at Șoseaua Iancului, nr. 1, representatives of the organiser and artists. The three winning proposals are announced on the 28th of May. Participants may submit no more than three proposals to this open call, and maximum one proposal for each of the three places. Prizes are not cumulative, so a participant can win only one prize, either as an individual or as part of a group. There is no fee for participating in this open call. The open call for artistic interventions offers the opportunity to realise the selected interventions, awarding three cash prizes and a production budget, totalling 14.220 lei (approximately 2.840 euros), as well as exposure in the project’s activities and its concluding exhibition in October 2025.
