Benchmark Road and Mikaela Way. This is a project of the Avon Town Council and Cultural, Arts & Special Events (“CASE”) Committee. Overview: The Seasons at Avon Mural Project (“Seasons Mural”) will help to further establish a creative identity and spirit for the east end of Harry A. Nottingham Park; the crowned jewel of the Town. The community minded Mural will become a significant landmark visually connecting the cultural hubs of the community at the intersection of Avon’s Library, Recreation Center, and Civic Center. This culturally significant eastern gateway to Nottingham Park should inspire community, conversation, and connection. The enhancement of public places by integrating the creative work of artists improves the pedestrian experience and promotes vibrancy, creativity, and livelihood in the community. The presence of and access to public art enlivens public areas and their grounds and makes them more welcoming. It creates a deeper interaction with the places where we live, work, and visit. Public art illuminates the diversity and history of a community, and points to its aspirations for the future. Project Intent: To create a significant landmark, visually connecting Avon’s Library, Recreation Center, Civic Center and the eastern gateway to Nottingham Park which inspires community, conversation, connection; and further identifies Avon as an art community. The mural will use a bright and cheerful color palette to evoke joy and positivity. Characters and scenes will be depicted in a whimsical, illustrative style to engage viewers of all ages. The selected artist is responsible for working with Town representatives in all aspects to include multiple iterations of design.

The AWAW EAG supports environmental art projects that inspire thought, action, and ethical engagement. Projects should not only point at problems, but aim to engage an environmental issue at some scale. Proposals should illustrate thorough consideration of a project’s ecological and social ethics. Projects that explore interdependence, relationships, and systems through Indigenous and ancestral practices are encouraged to apply. For the 2025 cycle, the program will distribute over $520,000 in funding. This more than doubles the yearly funding since AWAW EAG’s inaugural year, offering more artists the opportunity to have their projects funded.

All traditions are connected to the history of the communities that practice them, but they are not just art forms of the past. Instead, they are “living traditions” that adapt to remain relevant in a changing world, including new and emerging traditions. Individuals and communities use traditional arts to build collective power, engage in healing, and strengthen their identity. This area is where students gather to wait for classes and is across from a student study area. Media of all types will be considered, but must be mounted to or on the wall. If mounted to the wall, artwork should meet ADA requirements. Please refer to the location images in the full RFQ document to see more information about the location wall and for measurements. The main focus for the artwork is the area currently occupied by the map and bulletin board, but the artwork may occupy more of the wall space and even extend further down the hallway. A consideration of an existing public artwork in the building would be appreciated; ideally the new artwork would have a relationship in some way. The existing artwork is “Wingscape,” by David Griggs and Scott Parsons. This artwork consists of two outdoor stone columns, an exterior frieze, and two murals with a total of 13,000 handmade tiles and 200 distinct colored glazes.The artists were inspired by Gunnison’s natural geography of cairns, columns, and visible geological strata. This is evident in the exterior columns, which include some stones collected from Gunnison and other regions of Colorado. Another source of inspiration was the region’s unique biodiversity, specifically two endangered species of butterfly. This artwork is well liked on campus, in particular due to its non-literal/non-figurative interpretation of the subject matter. The committee for this art project would similarly like to see non-objective artwork examples that relate to the programs in the building. Please see these images of “Wingscape” for reference.

The final submission will be a digital design file that will be printed and installed by another vendor. -- If selected, the artists(s) and/or graphic designer(s) are responsible for all costs involved in the digital design and delivery of a vector file (AI, EPS, or SVG) or if submitting a photo, an image of at least 150 to 300 DPI at its final size.

Collaborative proposals from teams of artists are welcomed, particularly where distinct skill sets are needed to integrate both mural and metalwork components. This installation will be permanent and should have a minimum lifespan of 10 years. Project Goals & Key Elements The Montrose City Hall art installation should be an interactive landmark that immerses both residents and visitors in Montrose’s breathtaking natural landscape. The ideal proposal will combine a mural and metalwork attached to the building. Designed to engage and inspire, it will invite public participation through features like photo opportunities, 3D elements offering unique perspectives, or a design that shifts with the viewer's angle. This installation should turn the artwork into an experience, not just something to admire from afar. The design should draw inspiration from Montrose’s distinctive landscape, highlighting iconic features such as the Black Canyon, the Gunnison and Uncompahgre Rivers, high desert terrain, or the surrounding mountain backdrop.
