15' x 200' mural ----- The Trenton Transit Center, which serves Amtrak rail, New Jersey Transit bus and rail, South East Philadelphia Transportation Authority (SEPTA) rail, and the River Line light rail line, is a major transit gateway to Trenton, the State Capital of New Jersey. The Transit Center is a short walk to downtown Trenton, including several residential neighborhoods, the downtown business district, parks, galleries and entertainment venues, state, county and city government offices. At present, pedestrians must navigate a network of vehicular on-ramps, barren traffic islands, and a dark and dirty highway underpass on their walk from the Transit Center to downtown Trenton.
A coalition of non-profit, local and state government partners, led by Artworks Trenton Inc., Trenton’s non-profit visual art center, is seeking to create an “Artwalk” along this route, commissioning and installing public art, along with wayfinding, traffic calming, and landscaping elements, in order to transform the walk between the Transit Center and downtown Trenton into a visually appealing and safe experience, encouraging healthy behaviors such as walking and bicycling, and encouraging increased use of public transit by Trenton residents, commuters and visitors.
The first piece of this overall plan to create the Artwalk and transform the walk to downtown is the commissioning of art work to animate the Route 1/129 underpass. Artworks is soliciting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for a permanent public art painted mural to cover one wall of this underpass (this EOI call).

APPLY HERE -- https://www.publicartist.org/artist/call.cfm?id=7017&CFID=12314357&CFTOKEN=977999c9da76cbf9-6DF2584B-E11D-96CB-C83AB5A6BC11F61F - Art on the Parkway is a juried open call organized by the Association for Public Art (aPA) in partnership with the Parkway Council and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation (PPR). It invites artists, designers, and other creatives to propose a temporary public art installation in Maja Park on Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway that will be commissioned for summer 2025. Proposals are asked to explore the ways in which art can engage with audiences and respond to the site. The Benjamin Franklin Parkway is one of Philadelphia’s grandest civic spaces with a rich array of art and architecture—including many sculptures commissioned and maintained by the Association for Public Art. This opportunity invites proposals that expand the idea of the Parkway as a great urban park while both celebrating the Parkway’s historic built environment and exploring its future as a more inclusive and vibrant public space for all Philadelphians. This commission will be a part of the annual Oval summer festivities on the Parkway and must be durable and suitable for display in a public park open to the elements for the four month exhibit period from July-October 2025.

APPLY VIA LINK -- https://artist.callforentry.org/festivals_unique_info.php?ID=14248 --NJ TRANSIT and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts are pleased to present the TRANSITional Art Project: Rahway Rail Station Exterior Fiber Art. This call is soliciting submissions from prospective fiber/textile artists to provide art to be exhibited as part of the temporary art installation at the Rahway Rail Station. Submissions will only be accepted from artists who live in Central NJ (Counties of Union, Somerset, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, or Hunterdon). This exhibition will be unveiled in September 2025.
NOTE: This is one of two calls for artists currently open for the Rahway Rail Station’s TRANSITional Art Project. Click the link below to access the other call, TRANSITional Art Project: Rahway Rail Station Photography Exhibition.
About the Transit Arts Program:
Recognizing that public art can have a significant beneficial impact upon the transportation system and the communities that it serves, NJ TRANSIT (NJT) initiated a Transit Arts Program in June 1994. The Transit Arts Program identifies opportunities for public art to be integrated into the system and establishes a process for artist selection and art fabrication. In 2019, NJ TRANSIT partnered with the NJ State Council on the Arts to create a temporary art program, showcasing local artists’ work, for several months, at various transportation hubs in New Jersey. A Transit Arts Committee (TAC), stakeholders including members of the community, will review and score Artists’ proposals.
Project Description:
The NJ TRANSIT Rahway Rail Station is in Rahway, New Jersey, and serves as an important hub for commuters traveling in the state. It is situated at 1 Billings Place near the Rahway River and provides access to several major NJ TRANSIT rail lines, offering convenient service to New York City and other parts of New Jersey. The Rahway Station is served by both the Northeast Corridor Line and the North Jersey Coast Line.
The project seeks to select one (1) artist (or artist team) who is a current resident of New Jersey and lives in one of the State’s central Counties (Union, Somerset, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, or Hunterdon Counties). Preferential consideration will be given to artists with a strong connection to the Rahway community. Qualified artists are encouraged to submit their ideas for designing fiber/textile-based artwork on the archways of the exterior facade at the Rahway Station (the site is also known as the plaza).
-- BUDGET -- -- The TRANSITional Art Project will provide $8,000 to the selected artist or artist team, which can be used toward project costs, travel, supplies, and artistic fees as needed. Only one $8,000 stipend will be provided, so artist teams should allocate the artists fees between them from the total $8,000 budget. NJ TRANSIT will provide technical support for the installation, but the artist must coordinate with the NJT team as needed.
