APPLY HERE -- https://creativefresno.com/murals -- Project Purpose: To select an experienced artist or team of artists to install a large public mural on the upper façade of Fresno Ideaworks building at 1730 H St in downtown Fresno. Mural Theme: The proposed mural should focus on one or more of the following themes: Nature landscape showcasing the flora and fauna of California. Embodiment of Fresno Ideaworks’ motto: “Learn. Create. Share.” that incurs a sense of community and the industrious nature of Ideaworks’ members and their workspace.

APP LINK -- https://artist.callforentry.org/festivals_unique_info.php?ID=15168 -- Pelona Vista Park has approximately 30 developed acres and includes ten lighted soccer fields, a fitness court, and a one-mile walking path. The park serves youth and adult soccer organizations, walkers and joggers. Murals will be painted on the two staircases that access the north fields. The themes for this project are health and wellness, sportsmanship, and community pride. Submitting artists should have experience designing and painting murals. Any necessary personal protection equipment for the safe completion of the project must be purchased by the artist. The wall materials are concrete and cinder block and will be pressure washed, primered, and painted by the City in advance of the installation of the mural. Upon completion, the City will also have an anti-graffiti coat applied to the mural. Applications will be accepted by artists residing in the State of California. The all-inclusive budget for this project is $10,050. The budget covers the artist fee, paint supplies, equipment rentals, and any other expenses incurred and arranged by the artist in association with the design and completion of this mural project. Artist will be required to provide insurance and obtain a current City of Palmdale business license as outlined in the agreement, before beginning work on the project. Selected artist will receive a $450 stipend to submit a color sketch or digital image of the proposed artwork to scale. The proposals should reflect the project objectives, including theme and context within the project site, and should be respectful of the greater context of the community. Proposal design must take into consideration a small memorial tree, which is planted in front of the wall, as part of the composition. Proposed artwork must be family-friendly and cannot depict sexual conduct or sexually explicit nudity nor advertise any activity illegal under the laws of California or the United States. The Panel will select proposals that best meet the City’s objectives for this project. The Public Art Commission reserves the right to contact artists prior to final selection for clarification or expansion of their proposal.

In Santa Ana, Alicia Rojas is working to preserve the history and contributions of overlooked artists through mural restoration, public art advocacy, and local policy engagement. In Los Angeles, Tatiana Vahan launched the Los Angeles Artist Census to better understand working conditions and economic realities faced by artists, using data to advocate for greater support and visibility. And in Vallejo, the Personal Space Gallery team has established an inclusive community art space that features exhibitions and programs reflecting the diversity of the region’s creative voices, with a focus on accessibility and equity for artists from a broad range of backgrounds. When individuals take bold steps to challenge entrenched systems or practices, they risk sacrificing their jobs, social status, and reputation, and more often than not, their hard labor goes unpaid. CALI Catalyst recognizes that this is precisely the time when the arts and culture sector needs to support these changemakers who are ensuring that historically underrepresented communities, such as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and people with disabilities, and those in rural areas, continue to be represented and included. By speaking out and taking action, such as exposing discriminatory hiring practices or disrupting harmful philanthropic norms, these individuals make the arts and culture field better for everyone. The CALI Catalyst grant program aims to support such leaders financially, recognizing that the fear of financial risk can silence voices and discourage meaningful change. To help ensure that the momentum for field-wide change continues undeterred, CALI Catalyst will support artists and arts workers who are on the frontlines of making the field more accessible, welcoming, and representative of the communities they serve.
