Nestled in Lincoln’s Music District, MBX is a space for music rehearsal, recording, performance, and education. The proposed installations would occupy MBX’s adjacent covered alley. Installations will be divided into two phases. Artists are encouraged to indicate interest in either/both phases in their application. Phase 1 prioritizes the alley area immediately adjacent to MBX. Visible from the venue’s interior and its frontage on 14th street, this portion of the alley serves as a secondary entrance, equipment loading dock, and gathering space. The selected artist or team will collaborate with representatives from DLA and MBX to create a dynamic installation resonating with MBX’s raw-yet-refined design, which juxtaposes raw plywood and exposed concrete with sleek colors and faceted forms. Project space may include the entire patio area or be broken into several sections (north wall, south wall; murals, lighting) depending on the artist or team’s interests. Awards of up to $20,000 may be distributed if the entire project space is desired by an artist or team of artists. Please indicate if you are interested in all or a portion of the project space. Phase 2 concentrates on the remainder of the large alley. This zone, which curves southward toward N street, serves as the primary drive to the venue’s loading dock. Artists or teams of artists are encouraged to apply. Exact award amount is to be determined but the award will be commensurate with Phase 1. A committee of stakeholders, community members, and design professionals will review submissions to the RFQ. Submissions should include a letter of interest, resumé, and artwork images, submitted via www.CallForEntry.org (CaFÉ) by April 11th, 11:59PM CST. The committee will notify finalists by April 18th. Finalists will receive a $500 honorarium to create a design proposal and presentation to the committee by mid-May. The committee will select the artist or team based on relevant experience and the proposed installation’s durability and compatibility with MBX’s design.

Three (3) new murals will be created in the University Place neighborhood, Lincoln’s first certified Creative District. This call for artists outlines the details or application. Three artists will be selected and each will create a mural at a designated location within the UNI Place Creative District. Each artist will receive $4,000 in compensation for their work, as well as a design honorarium. The mural design will be printed and installed on the wall by another vendor. The renovation of BIG presents an opportunity to enhance the space through the creation of a mural in the vestibule. This mural will serve as a welcoming, vibrant focal point, celebrating the rich history and strong sense of community associated with BIG and its users. The total budget for this project is $8,000 for the purposes of providing a digital artistic design that can be used by a City-selected vendor to wrap the vestibule wall. The Hopkins Bird Mural Project is intended to draw attention to birds threatened by climate change and support the community of Hopkins through creative placemaking at key sites where public art can meet a variety of specific goals including: Highlight or support a cultural and ecological asset Add to the already robust art scene Emphasize the importance of birds in community life Each mural must be a minimum of 2’ x 2’ and depict at least one bird species identified as ‘High Vulnerability’ in our area by the National Audubon Society. As a partner to artists, community-centered nonprofits, and aligned housing developers, we provide essential support to lift up and embrace the power of culture building. In collaboration with the Rondo Community Land Trust (Rondo CLT), OCW aims to bring murals and community engagement to the Selby Avenue corridor, paying tribute to the Rondo community’s enduring legacy. Through the lens of Black history and experiences, these projects will honor the resilience, creativity, and contributions that define Rondo’s rich African American heritage. OCW seeks artists to honor the stories, struggles, and triumphs of Rondo’s history, creating a lasting tribute to its cultural legacy. The OCW team will be facilitating the curation and commissioning process for the creation of up to four murals to be installed at a public mural park in the Rondo neighborhood. Artists are expected to live paint and complete their murals over the course of the 2 day event taking place July 12th-13th. These murals will be part of the Arts and Cultural Corridor debut and event. The goal of the selection process is to engage historically Black artists or artist teams with a strong background in public art. OCW and Rondo CLT aim to create artwork that authentically represents the cultural pride, historical significance, and aspirations of Rondo’s residents. The selected artwork will be installed in a visible location on an exterior screen wall at the facility’s lift station along a highly utilized public trail. The artwork should interpret one or more of the following themes: local aquatic ecosystem restoration, water quality/clarity improvement, water movement and watershed connectivity within the SWWD, climate resiliency, and/or other related topics subject to SWWD and City of Woodbury approval. SWWD is interested in discovering new ways of envisioning, connecting, and valuing its water resources while recognizing different perspectives and ways of knowing. Through this project, SWWD hopes to engage area residents and trail users with creativity, innovation and artistic excellence while promoting and achieving water quality improvement by providing visibility to the watershed’s natural resources.
