Project Goals – 6x26: The City of Umatilla has a goal to complete six (6) murals in Umatilla. These plans align with city council goals listed below: Goal 3 – Enhance & Cultivate Relationships, Partnerships, & Community Perceptions Goal 4 – Increase Public Involvement, Increase Transparency, & Enhance Cultural Diversity First presented to the Council in April of 2019, the 6x26 Mural Project will beautify the Umatilla community through commissioned artists and public involvement to create murals on downtown buildings. The project will conclude in 2026. Vision for Nugent Park Mural: Nugent Park, in Umatilla, Oregon, is the first location for the 6x26 Mural Project. The theme for the mural is “Celebrate Umatilla Parks and Recreation”. The content of the mural is up to the artist’s discretion. Some things to consider include a collage of sports like baseball and soccer. Since the mural is located at Nugent Park, home to the City’s little league field, the sporting component is important. Additionally, the park is just feet from the Umatilla River and a walking path. The mural could include recreation activities such as kayaking, fishing, hiking, and boat launching. This mural should focus on the theme “Celebrate Umatilla Parks and Recreation”.

It is a list of artists who pre-qualify to create artworks through our program. It allows for a streamlined selection process.

The murals will serve as neighborhood landmarks, places of community pride and graffiti deterrents. Murals are to be located on unincorporated Pierce County owned property in areas incurring blight, vandalism, and graffiti. The RFP features three separate mural projects. Applicants may apply for any single mural location, any combination of mural locations or all mural locations with this one application. CNTR is a local Gender Based Violence nonprofit gearing up for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The "What We Wish You Knew" mural will incorporate quotes from survivors in the area.

In preparation of our 2025 opening, we are excited to announce our first 20 calls for West Coast artists and curators. We do open calls differently. As an idea-based art center, we are looking for bold and unconventional ideas, and celebrate mediums and genres often passed by. Renderings and budgets are valuable, but we are more interested in your ability to communicate your ideas and the quality of your vision. We want to show the works that other institutions won’t and elevate under-represented talents across the wide spectrum of creative self-expression. Be wildly creative, ideate your project clearly, show proof of your ability to execute and share with us your boldest dreams. Winners will be selected to move forward within 30 days of the posted deadline. You are invited to submit to as many open calls as you’d like.
