Description of Opportunity The Host Committee is sponsoring two adhesive vinyl temporary murals to be displayed on the Indianapolis Artsgarden, and visible from Washington St (both directions). The murals will reflect the theme “Red Hot Summer” as women’s basketball reaches its pinnacle in Indy’s Home Court. The murals may be done by the same artist, or by different artists. This is an ideal project for artists who can provide work in a digital format that meets strict production specifications. Work may be original to this commission, or may be a creative repurposing of previously created work.

This project celebrates the Eastside community's history, values, and spirit, with a design inspired by feedback from local residents to ensure it reflects the voices and stories of the neighborhood. After the deadline, selected mural designs will be open for public voting, giving the community the chance to choose the mural that best represents them. By engaging in this comprehensive inventory, assessment, and documentation, DCASE aims to further its commitment to the long-term care of public art in Chicago. The City of Chicago is home to one of the most dynamic and diverse public art collections in the United States, showcasing the city’s commitment to fostering creativity, engaging the public, and enriching its urban landscape. The Chicago Public Art Collection, which DCASE maintains, includes nearly 700 works of art exhibited in 143 municipal facilities around the city, such as airports, libraries, police stations, and parks. The Collection provides the citizens and guests of Chicago with an improved public environment and enhances City buildings and spaces with works by professional artists. These consultant services are part of the larger Chicago Monuments Project initiative, funded by the Andrew W. The awards are unrestricted, allowing artists to use the funds in any way they choose. -- 1. OPEN CALL The Artadia application is open for one month in each program city, is free to apply and open-call. -- 2. APPLICATION REVIEW A jury of three curators assembled by Artadia, including one locally based curator, reviews all applications and determines a short list of six Finalists. -- 3. ROUND TWO STUDIO VISITS A second jury, assembled by Artadia, made up of one juror from the application review and one new juror conducts virtual studio visits with each Finalist for 45 minutes. -- 4. AWARDEES IDENTIFIED Following the studio visits, the second round jury will designate three Awardees to receive unrestricted funds of $15,000*, as well as access to the Artadia Network. Awardees are determined based on the sole discretion of the jury. *The Marciano Artadia Award gives unrestricted funds of $25,000 to one artist in Los Angeles. -- For their time and labor in the application process, Artadia provides honorariums to each Finalist ultimately not chosen as an Awardee.

The purpose of this mural is to welcome visitors and commuters to the Wicker Park neighborhood by highlighting the charm and local character of the community. Please include a literal or creative rendition of the phrase “Welcome to Wicker Park” in your mural renderings. All proposals will be reviewed by the Arts Committee of WPB SSA #33. Funding for this project is already approved and the committee will make all curatorial decisions in regards to artist selection.
