The RC Public Art Program is seeking artists to design four (4) utility boxes that will bring a new level of color and creativity to the city. The project will transform blank canvases into functional artwork and highlight the work of local artists to help create a more vibrant, attractive cityscape while contributing to the character of the neighborhood. The chosen art designs will be printed on vinyl and installed on the box.

The goal of the volunteer position is to translate the meanings and significance of Joshua Tree National Park into various artistic expression within their chosen art medium in order to build stewardship among the visiting public and share the park’s resources with audiences in their own communities. _________________________ Most of the Artist’s time will be self-directed project time. The Artist is expected to pursue the personal goals and projects as outlined in his/her proposal. This time will be spent in Joshua Tree National Park, learning about the park and using that knowledge and experience to create or be inspired to create art. ___________________________ Artists in Residence are housed at Black Rock in the northwest corner of the park. This area has a ranger station, a campground and access to many beautiful trails. Sitting at the base of the San Bernardino mountain range, its higher altitude makes this area one of the best for Joshua Trees and somewhat cooler than other parts of the park. Although conditions at this location are often relatively temperate, artists should be prepared for more extreme conditions during the course of their stay, including high winds, low relative humidity and temperatures that can range from 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the day to as low as 30 degrees at night. Artists sleep in the studio space in the Black Rock Campground, which is furnished with a twin bed and bureau. The studio has a drafting table, several folding tables, and ample natural light. Public toilets are adjacent to the studio space. Shared kitchen, laundry, and bathing facilities are a short walk or drive from the studio at the Interagency Fire Center. The distance between the sleeping space and the kitchen and bathing facility is less than half a mile. The town of Yucca Valley is about a 10 minute drive away and has a variety of shopping and dining as well as medical facilities. Only one occupant is allowed at any time in AiR housing. Park policy prohibits bringing pets. Though housing is provided, artists are responsible for their own expenses such as meals, transportation, personal art supplies, etc. _______________ This is an unpaid opportunity, even though the project budget says $1

Venice Community Housing (VCH) and the Social Justice Learning Institute (SJLI) are inviting artists or artist teams to be considered to work as creative partners to design and implement public art and/or creative solutions at 400 Centinela Avenue in Inglewood, CA. This site is the future location of Sankofa Place at Centinela, a 100% affordable housing development, that also includes SJLI’s headquarters. VCH and SJLI are seeking artist(s) to work collaboratively with VCH and SJLI staff and Architects The AERO Collective and The Architects Collective, within the community context of Inglewood. The goal is to enhance the location with artistic design elements and public artwork that pays homage to the vibrant and diverse people that call Inglewood home.

The Evolution Grant will provide unrestricted funding to an individual artist with recognized artistic excellence in fine art media and a demonstrated commitment to their art. ------ AWARD ------ $1,000 to one visual artist each grant cycle. I am envisioning this open call to welcome art by immigrants and children of immigrants especially those whose childhood was shaped around their own migration or their parents and how regardless of our differences many of us agree that we share so many unique experiences. Sometimes its the calling cards our parents used to use or a banana liquado after school or the nostalgia of a tia's living room where many celebrations and holidays were spent in rooms and houses decorated by new and old customs, panaderia calendars, and images of la virgen de guadalupe on the walls - there is so much beauty in the way our families created new normal and new homes with community. Whatever this means to you and your Art I'd love to see it and celebrate in large in the public spaces we love and exist in. We invite artists of all ages and talents to submit their artwork between March 14 and May 5, 2025. This is an opportunity to have your work placed on billboard ad space in Los Angeles, CA.
